5 Reasons why you should travel New Zealand in 2017

Some say it’s the adventure capital of the world, others may describe it as a hidden gem of the southern hemisphere. One thing I know for sure is that it has something for everybody.

I have had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand on multiple occasions and no matter how many times I visit this incredible place it blows my mind each time.

The 5 reasons listed should confirm why you should travel New Zealand during 2017;

1 – Extreme Sports

I have to agree that New Zealand is the adventure capital of the world. It has pretty much every extreme sport on the menu – bungy jumping, sky diving, white water rafting, jet boating through canyons and much much more. Generally the price tag on most of this activities comes at a premium but if you are an adrenaline junky or just want to tick off your bucket list in the most incredible backdrop then New Zealand is for you!

2 – Climb an Active Volcano

Honestly, when I first heard of the early sunrise trek I wasn’t sold on the idea, but as I am a sucker for the thought of missing out I felt as if I had to pull myself together. Some say the Tonagariro Crossing is the best one day hike you can do in New Zealand and I would have to agree. This incredible hike is approx 20km and is a fairly easy work for most of the way, if you chose to take the challenge of Mt Doom then you may end up spending a lot of time on your ass on the way down due to the steep loose sulphur rocks. As I am sure you have gathered I wasn’t a keen hiker, you honestly don’t have to be to enjoy this trek. What an experience and I can honestly say that the highlight was standing looking over the clouds and the turquoise emerald lakes.

3 – Adventure across a Glacier

Well, this was a unique experience in itself…you get to walk on ICE! That’s pretty cool right, even better if your budget allows it you can take a helicopter ride to the centre of the glacier and do a trek up through some ice tunnels and learn all about how glaciers are formed and what is threatening them in today’s world. Yes, it is a little touristy but let’s be honest it’s not every day you get to walk on a glacier.

4 – Abel Tasman National Park

Grab yourself a kayak and explore the beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park, these tropical waters are found at the very north/west of the South Island. You almost have to remind yourself you are in New Zealand and not in the Asia. I only had the opportunity to spend a day here when I passed through but if I visited again I would 100% take an overnight stay here. They have beautiful shared huts on the beach and basic facilities to keep you going.

5 – Queenstown!

Ok…Queenstown gets a lot of hype, and some people ask me the question…’is it really that great?’ the answer is YES. Queenstown almost takes you in and lets you go EVENTUALLY, again I really didn’t spend enough time here. The mountains and lakes that surround this amazing town will blow your mind. It has a very relaxed vibe and generates all of its energy from its fantastic party scene and endless adrenaline activities. 2 things that you MUST do before leaving Queenstown;

1. Take on Big Al @ Ferg Burger
2. Strap yourself in for the 134 metre Nevis Bungy Jump by AJ Hackett

My 5 reasons to visit New Zealand in 2017 is very much a taster of what New Zealand has to offer. This amazing country that has been blessed with beauty, wildlife and adventure should be on your MUST SEE list of 2017.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions regarding where to stay and what to do in New Zealand 🙂
